Mill Park lakes and wetlands upgrade
Thornhill Park Retarding Basin and Wetland requires some rectification works on the outlet structure, north of the freeway to allow for the water levels to naturally balance within the system as designed. Once the water levels have been lowered landscaping works can commence around the park. Melbourne Water will undertake the landscaping works, which will include outdoor fitness equipment, a viewing platform and plantings around the area.
We are planning to transfer 280 hectares of our land to the Crown for conservation purposes, and rezone and sell the remainder on the open market. The land was previously earmarked for the Watsons Creek Storage Reservoir.
We’re working to improve the health of the Little Yarra River in Yarra Junction, by undertaking weed control and revegetation along the streamside.

Ensuring we maintain our world class sewerage system today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
Melbourne Water is updrading the internal fittings of the sewer maintenance hole located at the corner of Cullen Street and Hudsons Road, Spotswood.
Melbourne Water has released a new Maribyrnong River Flood Model to better understand current and future flood information in the Maribyrnong River region. This new model includes both 2024 and projected 2100 flood extent scenarios.
During the warmer months we monitor mosquito larvae at the Seaford Wetlands and coordinate actions to control outbreaks.
We’re taking a holistic approach to reducing flood risk in Elster Creek Catchment, collaboratively implementing the Elster Creek Catchment Flood Management Plan 2019-24 with the cities of Bayside, Glen Eira, Kingston and Port Phillip.
