Melbourne Water is committed to preserving and protecting our water catchments and the local environment in your area. We are removing the infestation of ‘giant pine scale’ from Cardinia Reservoir and replanting the affected areas with native plants. These works will protect the local environment from further damage from giant pine scale and ensure the long-term biodiversity of the area.
Melbourne Water will be conducting rehabilitation works to the Church Street Main Drain in Hawthorn between Church Street and College Street Hawthorn.
This three-year project is trialling the financial and environmental benefits of urban green waste mulch under vines in the Macedon Ranges. Certified compost has been placed in vine rows at three vineyards and are being compared to control row with standard practices (brushcutting under vine). Electronic data loggers are being used to monitor progress hourly and grape quality is being assessed at each annual harvest.
Upgraded the electrical and control equipment of the pump station along the Yarra River opposite the entrance to Crown Casino on Southbank Boulevard. During storm events the pumps allow a faster rate of flow for water into the river when the drains are at capacity.
