Alexandra Parade Main Deck Replacement Project

The Alexandra Parade main drain was built in the 1850’s and was covered in a concrete deck in the 1900’s.

Some sections of the concrete deck have corroded and need replacing.

The drain reduces flood risk by carrying water from inner-city suburbs out to the Merri Creek.

The project will involve upgrading 400 metres of the decking and take approximately six months to complete.

We’ve worked hard to avoid trees, but some growing over the drain will be removed.

We will be planting some new, advanced trees away from the drain.

We try to minimise disruption to traffic, through traffic on Alexandra Parade will be maintained at all times.

[pic map highlights showing:

  • Narrowed traffic lanes from the Eastern Freeway towards the city
  • Temporary closure of the right hand turn lanes into Smith and Wellington Streets.

We will do our best to minimise disruption to local business and residents.
