
Melbourne Water celebrates five-fold presence in 2025 VIC Water Awards Finalists
Melbourne Water has been named a finalist in five of six categories at the 2025 VIC Water Awards, recognising its staff and projects for innovation, research and development and organisational excellence.
Organised by the Australian Water Association, the VIC Water Awards program aims to drive sustainability and positive change in the water sector through innovation and leadership. Winners will be announced on 16 October 2025.
Melbourne Water’s nominations span consortium and single-entity projects as well as individual professional awards. The shortlisted entries demonstrate applied research, partnership-first delivery and practical innovation across metropolitan and regional settings.
Melbourne Water’s Managing Director, Dr Nerina Di Lorenzo, congratulated the finalists and wished them the best of luck in claiming the accolades in October.
“These nominations recognise the skill, collaboration and innovation of our people and partners, in service of the community,” Dr Di Lorenzo said.
“We congratulate all finalists and look forward to celebrating the sector’s achievements at the awards gala.”

- Organisational Excellence Award: Collaboratively Balancing the Benefits and Risks of Closed Catchments - Melbourne Metropolitan Water Industry (Melbourne Water, Greater Western Water, South East Water and Yarra Valley Water)
- R&D Excellence Award: World’s First Transforming Biosolids Training Centre – South East Water Consortium with RMIT University, Melbourne Water, Environmental Protection Authority Victoria and Intelligent Water Networks
- Infrastructure Project Innovation Award (Regional and Metro): Olinda to Mitcham Water Mains Replacement Project - John Holland-KBR Joint Venture and Melbourne Water
- Infrastructure Project Innovation Award (Regional and Metro): Reimagining Water, Reconnecting Culture: The Moonee Ponds Creek Transformation - Melbourne Water, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Jacobs, Spiire and other contributing organisations
- Infrastructure Project Innovation Award (Regional and Metro): 5W NRP at Western Treatment Plant - Melbourne Water, Jacobs and BMD
- Young Water Professional of the Year: Georgia Duncan, Operations & Maintenance Officer, Waterways & Catchment Services South East, Melbourne Water
- Water Professional of the Year: Shae Louise Abel, Manager Diversity Inclusion & Belonging - Capability & People Experience, Melbourne Water.
Winners will automatically enter as finalists for the national awards.
