Nestled in the Christmas Hills east of Melbourne, Sugarloaf Reservoir is one of the city’s picturesque water storages. It’s also a clever part of the system that helps keep Melbourne’s water supply steady and strong.
The Hawthorn East Main Drain (HEMD) is part of the complex drainage system which Melbourne Water manages. A recent inspection of the HEMD found that sections may be reaching the end of their working life resulting in brick separation and some brick loss. That’s why at Melbourne Water we are upgrading the HEMD so that it can continue to ensure that rainfall and ground water can safely flow away from built-up areas into rivers and creeks.
At the edge of Melbourne’s fast-growing north, Greenvale Reservoir is helping shape the region’s future, not just by storing water, but by ensuring the reliability and flexibility of drinking water especially as new communities take shape across the region.
French Island’s land managers are continuing the transformative conservation efforts to safeguard the island’s native wildlife.
Join us to hear about why frogs are a key part of healthy environments and things that you can do to help protect them. We will take a walk along the Creek to listen to frogs and learn how to capture their sounds using the Frog Census App.
Melbourne Water is thrilled to join forces with the Yarra Riverkeeper Association for the third annual Birrarung Riverfest, running 6 – 28 September 2025.
Melbourne Water is inviting the Doveton and Eumemmerring community to help bring almost two kilometres of underground drain and concrete channels back to life as a lush, meandering section of Eumemmerring Creek.
