Melbourne Water celebrates reopening of Greenvale Reservoir Park

Melbourne Water is pleased to announce the reopening of Greenvale Reservoir Park’s southern section, unlocking more than 37 hectares of vibrant green space for the local community and visitors to enjoy.

Located in Melbourne’s north, Greenvale Reservoir Park offers grassy slopes and walking paths great for spotting local wildlife and connecting with nature.

Minister for Water, Gayle Tierney, officially reopened the park today. The revitalised park now features an improved walking trail, resurfaced roads and carparks, upgraded toilets, and new social amenities, inspiring community members to explore and enjoy these enhancements.

A $3 million investment by Melbourne Water and Parks Victoria has also enabled a seamless connection between the park’s northern and southern sections, improving visitor access and encouraging more community engagement.

Melbourne Water Managing Director, Dr Nerina Di Lorenzo, said Melbourne Water was proud to lead the delivery of the project, transforming the park into a vibrant green space and enhancing its amenities so the community can fully enjoy it.

“Greenvale Reservoir plays a crucial role in Melbourne’s water supply. Complementing this reservoir with renewed parkland means more people can enjoy a healthy and sustainable urban environment,” said Di Lorenzo.

The northern section of the park was reopened earlier under the Victorian Government’s $21 million Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program. The program delivered upgrades across 21 urban parks to encourage outdoor activity and connection with nature.

Parks Victoria Chief Executive Officer, Lee Miezis, commented, “We are excited to welcome visitors – including dogs on lead – back to the southern section of Greenvale Reservoir, opening even more space to walk, explore and enjoy nature alongside the northern area.”

“We are proud to have worked alongside Melbourne Water to deliver this upgrade to the parkland and its amenities, making the park safe for visitors and creating a sustainable balance between vibrant green spaces and the protection of vital water infrastructure for our growing urban community.”

Parks Victoria manages Greenvale Reservoir Park under a lease arrangement with Melbourne Water.

With a capacity exceeding 26,000 megalitres, Greenvale Reservoir stores water transferred from Silvan Reservoir. While the park was closed, Melbourne Water undertook a range of critical dam wall upgrades to meet the changing needs of fast-growing communities in the north-western and western suburbs of Melbourne.
