We're maintaining Melbourne Water’s pipeline in Box Hill, Forest Hill and Blackburn South to increase water delivery capacity to Melbourne's northeastern suburbs. We’re rehabilitating this vital connection to enhance water delivery, ensuring a reliable and sustainable supply for today, tomorrow and generations to come. 

What we are doing

Melbourne Water will be commencing a number of site investigations to gather critical information to inform the assessment of main drain improvements.  

Why we are doing this project 

The objective of the program is to deliver comprehensive monitoring to establish where remediation works are required to enable a continued supply of water to the Melbourne metropolitan area into the future. 

When and what works are happening

Work is scheduled to commence from August until October along five locations on Canterbury Road, Box Hill, Forest Hill and Blackburn South. 

Location 1 - 845 Canterbury Road, Box Hill 

  • Thursday 14 August 8pm until 5am Friday 15 August 2025 

  • Friday 15 August 8pm until 5am Monday 18 August 2025

Location 2 - 251 Canterbury Road, Forest Hill

  • Thursday 28 August 8pm until 5am Friday 29 August 2025 

  • Friday 29 August 8pm until 5am Monday 1 September 2025 

Location 3 - 981 Canterbury Road, Box Hill

  • Thursday 11 September 8pm until 5am Friday 12 September 2025

  • Friday 12 September 8pm until 5am Monday 15 September 2025

Location 4 - 83 Canterbury Road, Blackburn South

  • Thursday 18 September 8pm until 5am Friday 19 September 2025

  • Friday 19 September 8pm until 5am Monday 22 September 2025

Location 5 - 175 Canterbury Road, Blackburn South

  • Thursday 9 October 8pm until 5am Friday 10 October 2025

  • Friday 10 October 8pm until 5am Monday 13 October 2025

Please note that these dates may change subject to weather conditions.

What to expect 

  • Work will involve excavating around the inspection points as well as reinstating the area. 

  • You may notice some noise from construction vehicles, machinery and our team working near the water main inspection area. We apologise for any inconvenience. 

  • There will be temporary changes to traffic conditions including lane closures at five different locations. Traffic management will be in place to assist with vehicles and local traffic. Traffic delays will occur during the works. Local access onto Canterbury Road will be maintained and no driveways will be impacted by work. 

  • Bus and emergency services access will be maintained during the work. 

  • We encourage you to follow all directions and take care around work areas.  

We aim to keep impacts to the community to a minimum where possible. Thank you for your understanding and patience while this essential work takes place.
