​Applications for planning permits for the development of a site may be referred to Melbourne Water, as the relevant Referral Authority.

Council's refer Section 52 and Section 55 applications to us because they are triggered by the relevant planning scheme or if Melbourne Water's land or assets are near the proposed development.

Application process

Documents required

Applications must include:

  • completed council planning permit application form

  • detailed development plans – including site plan and elevation plans.

  • other relevant reports that may assist in the assessment process

Approval process

We review applications to ensure compliance with standards, including flood risk, waterway and asset protection.

After assessing the application we may consent to the application, request further information or object to the proposal.

Duration

The process takes 28 calendar days to assess an application and respond.

Incomplete applications may be delayed or returned requesting additional information.
