Based off feedback received, we have developed a new program that brings together several successful Melbourne Water grant programs into a single streamlined application process.
Our new incentives program Liveable Communities, Liveable Waterways is now open for submissions.

Liveable Communities, Liveable Waterways has a strong focus on innovation, liveability and collaboration across all areas of water management.

The program offers a streamlined and flexible application process that allows you to apply for an incentive at any time during the year. The application process makes it easier to partner with Melbourne Water on projects and initiatives that contribute to enhancing the life and liveability of Melbourne.

The transition of the Stream Frontage Management Program and Rural Land Program into Liveable Communities, Liveable Waterways will commence from late 2021.

Current grants programs available

Councils, public land managers, school and community groups, universities and research institutions, multi-partner projects and collaborative groups can apply for funding through the Liveable Communities, Liveable Waterways Program.

Private landowners and land managers can access funding to improve river health through the following grants programs:

  • Stream frontage management program: Funds work that protects or enhances riverbanks, such as weed control, fencing and planting. We also offer technical advice and learning opportunities.

  • Rural land program: Funds projects in specific catchments to reduce the amount of sediment and nutrients entering waterways from farmland.

Technical advice, education and support to develop farm plans is also available.
