The Waterways of the West – Traditional Owner Engagement Project links community environmental groups based in the Maribyrnong and Werribee catchments with the cultural knowledge and land management expertise of Traditional Owners.
We have completed an operation in the Silvan Reservoir closed catchment to clear a large quantity of debris following the 2021 storms. Replanting and hand-seeding of the affected areas is being done in early 2024. This will reduce bushfire risk in the reservoir and the surrounding region, and in doing so, help protect our water supply.
Fish can now freely and safely migrate from Port Phillip Bay to Darebin Creek thanks to the installation of a fish ladder.

The Two Great Ramsar Wetlands project is a five-year project (2018-23) led by Melbourne Water that aims to bring key agencies, land managers and community groups together to reduce the threats to the Port Phillip and Western Port Ramsar sites at Port Phillip Bay (western shoreline) and Western Port.
