Can I flush it?

Not everything is safe to send down your drains. Learn more about what’s flushable and what doesn’t belong in your pipes.

What can I flush?

It’s actually easier to remember what you can flush, rather than what you can’t!

The only things that can safely go down your toilet are toilet paper and your own bodily waste.

Unfortunately, just because a product is labelled ‘flushable’ doesn’t actually mean that it is.

What can't I flush?

If it’s not toilet paper or your own bodily waste, it shouldn't go down your toilet.

Here are some specifics you might not have realised aren’t safe to flush:

  • Wet wipes or ‘flushable’ wipes
  • Tissues and paper towels
  • Sanitary products (e.g. condoms, tampons, pads, liners, nappies, etc)
  • Cotton buds, balls, wipes
  • Band-aids, bandages or other medical waste
  • Dental floss
  • Nail or hair clippings
  • Food, fats or oils
  • Chemicals

Tip: check that your stormwater plumbing isn’t connected to the sewerage system.
