Our rivers and creeks are essential to our way of life and the plants and animals that depend on them.
That’s why at Melbourne Water we’re working with the Macedon Ranges Shire Council to improve the health of a section of Riddells Creek in Centennial Park, in Macedon.
We have completed new rockwork along a section of the riverbank to help manage upstream erosion.
Selected non-native vegetation and weeds are being removed to make way for replanting 8,500 indigenous tree, shrub and grass seedlings over three years, commencing in June 2026. This revegetation program will create new habitat for our native animals.
A community planting day will be held on Saturday 27 June with Mt Macedon and Macedon Landcare.
Local impacts
February – April 2026
- A section of Centennial Park will be temporarily closed 3 – 4 weeks for safety reasons due to heavy machinery and excavation work.
- Selected non-native trees and other vegetation is being removed or pruned. Vegetation removal works will take approximately 5 weeks.
- Traffic management and detour signage will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists while the works are taking place.
- The public toilets and carpark will remain open during the works.
This project is part of our ongoing commitment to healthy waterways. These works will protect this section of Riddells Creek and restore native habitat for plants and animals now and for generations to come.
