We’re carrying out minor maintenance and improvement works to the Pilot Park in Williams Landing until July 2026. This ensures the parkland continues to provide opportunities to exercise, relax, socialise and connect with nature today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
The Pilot Park is an engaging and enjoyable community space created as part of the Greening the Pipeline project.
Why this is important
The Williams Landing Pilot Park was opened in 2017 as a showcase to demonstrate the potential for Greening the Pipeline, a program that aims to transform the entire length of the Main Outfall Sewer pipeline reserve into a green linear parkland with unique community spaces and a holistic approach to water management. Thanks to the success of the Pilot Park, the Greening the Pipeline program continues to achieve its vision, through the completion of projects such as Zone 5 West in 2025, which includes an education lookout, an amphitheatre and extensive revegetation.
The Pilot Park was completed almost ten years ago and is now due for maintenance to ensure this much-loved community space continues to be enjoyed into the future.
When it opened, the Pilot Park featured sporting equipment, landscaping structures and what was at the time a state-of-the-art stormwater harvesting system. This system has been superseded by the new Arndell Park Stormwater Harvesting system, which recently commenced operation in nearby Truganina.
What are we doing?
In partnership with Wyndham City Council, we’re undertaking a range of maintenance works to ensure the Pilot Park is safe and in good order, including:
- upgrading lighting
- making minor repairs
- addressing trip hazards.
Given the much larger Arndell Park Stormwater Harvesting system is now covering the site’s irrigation requirements, we will also be decommissioning the Pilot Park’s stormwater harvesting system as part of these works. The improvement works will involve:
- sealing the underground components of the system
- removing the pergola
- converting the raingarden into a woody meadow landscape with rock crossings
- removing three dead trees and replanting them with saplings.
Timing
The works are scheduled to occur from April to the end of June 2026.
Location
Works will take place in the Pilot Park, which occupies a 100m stretch of the Main Outfall Sewer pipeline reserve in Williams Landing, between Lukis Avenue and McLachlan Drive.
What to expect
Works will generally occur between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
We will do everything possible to minimise disruption. However, it is likely that nearby residents and park users will notice:
- a worksite set up within temporary fencing which will contain a site office, vehicles, stored materials and equipment
- noise and vibration at times from the excavation and demolition works and from reversing vehicles
- construction vehicles entering and exiting the site from Mallard Close.
We plan to keep the Federation Trail shared path open for the duration of the works. If we do need to temporarily close the shared path at any time, we ask that you follow signage and instructions from traffic management staff for your safety and that of our workers.
