  • detailed development plans, including floor plan and elevations (VicSmart, infill developments, otherwise optional)

  • site plans

  • previous letters or correspondence from us (optional)

  • any supporting reports (optional)

  • current title plan

  • plan of subdivision

  • survey information

What we consider in our advice

In providing pre-development advice outside a Melbourne Water drainage scheme we will provide you with information based on: 

  • relevant flood level information

  • development requirements to protect your proposed development from flooding

  • Melbourne Water asset protection requirements

  • stormwater quality requirements

  • environmental and waterway protection requirements, including consideration of waterway amenity

  • design criteria

For pre-development advice applications within a Melbourne Water scheme we will review your proposal and provide you with design criteria based on:

  • design intent for scheme assets

  • indicative location of required scheme assets

  • indicative land take for major assets

  • performance criteria for water quality treatment


The process takes up to 28 calendar days to prepare our advice. If you supply accurate information about the development we may respond more quickly. For more complex advice we may request a meeting to outline our requirements.

Incomplete applications may be delayed or returned requesting additional information.
