Landowners must apply for our consent to maintain existing levees on Crown land that adjoins a rural property.
Any works undertaken without Melbourne Water approval will be considered illegal under the Water Act.
We will request:
description of the proposed works
review of the condition of the levee
When we receive documentation a site meeting will be organised to discuss the proposal. Melbourne Water will respond with a detailed letter outlining requirements to submit for detailed design.
Detailed plans will then need to be submitted by a qualified engineer.
If the plans are approved a 5-year licence agreement is drawn up. An inspection will be organised of completed work
Inspections may be required at different stages of the works. Your letter of approval will confirm this requirement.
The process may take up 28 days to review your application and respond.
Incomplete applications may be delayed or returned requesting additional information.
Fees to be determined at time of approval. Fees may include the cost of inspection, security fees and administrative fees. We will advise you of the amount once we assess your application.
