Community members are invited to find out what is planned for the next stage of the Reimagining Moonee Ponds Creek project in Strathmore and Pascoe Vale.

The concept design for Stage 2 is now available online via Melbourne Water’s Let’s Talk platform, and locals can also attend community pop-up events to meet the project team and find out what’s next for this project.

  • Pop-up 1: Saturday 20 June at Pascoe Vale Central Cricket Club Pavilion (10.00am–1.00pm)
  • Pop up 2: Monday 22 June at Lebanon Reserve Sports Pavilion (5.00pm-8.00pm)

Stage 1 of the Reimagining Moonee Ponds Creek project has seen a 360-metre section in Oak Park transformed into a more open, natural and inviting community space.

Melbourne Water Executive General Manager Service and Asset Lifecycle, Matthew Daley, said feedback from the community about Stage 1 was overwhelmingly positive and the project team will build on this early success with Stage 2.

“Feedback from the local community has been exceptional. An 88% satisfaction rating reflects both the quality of the work, and the genuine investment the team has made in this community. Stage 2 builds directly on that foundation,” he said.

“The ultimate goal of this project is to transform this section of Moonee Ponds Creek so that waterway health and drainage is improved, and people can make the most of the nature trails along the waterway.”

Community feedback has played an important role in shaping the concept design for this next stage of the project, including the results of a recent survey about Stage 1 as well as the original community feedback from 2021.

The design also incorporates the lessons learned from the design and delivery of Stage 1, including integrating local and Traditional Owner knowledge and values, and ensuring the creek continues to evolve as a valued, natural and community asset.

Melbourne Water is leading the project on behalf of the Chain of Ponds Collaboration Group, in partnership with Merri-bek City Council, Moonee Valley City Council, the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), and the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.

The second stage of the Reimagining Moonee Ponds Creek project is jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program and Melbourne Water.
