We are enhancing the Mill Park Wetlands in The Lakes Reserve, South Morang, to ensure they keep working the way they were meant to: filtering out nitrogen and harmful pollutants and keeping our rivers and creeks healthy.
During the warmer months we monitor mosquito larvae at the Seaford Wetlands and coordinate actions to control outbreaks.
The Ramsar Protection Program is a long-term, collaborative environmental program working to maintain or improve the ecological values of the Western Port and Port Phillip Bay western shoreline Ramsar wetlands sites.
Thornhill Park Retarding Basin and Wetland requires some rectification works on the outlet structure, north of the freeway to allow for the water levels to naturally balance within the system as designed. Once the water levels have been lowered landscaping works can commence around the park. Melbourne Water will undertake the landscaping works, which will include outdoor fitness equipment, a viewing platform and plantings around the area.
The Two Great Ramsar Wetlands project is a five-year project (2018-23) led by Melbourne Water that aims to bring key agencies, land managers and community groups together to reduce the threats to the Port Phillip and Western Port Ramsar sites at Port Phillip Bay (western shoreline) and Western Port.
