The Leadbeater’s Possum is Victoria's faunal emblem. There's a highland subspecies

and a lowland subspecies, and there's less than 40 Lowland Leadbeater’s Possums in the wild

Loss of the swampy floodplain habitat is the key reason Lowland Leadbeater’s Possums

are critically endangered. So restoring that swampy floodplain habitat is vital for their survival.

This project has established 3.6 hectares of revegetation in partnership with Yarra Valley Water and volunteers from the Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater and local Landcare group.

We've created a seed bank of local and climate adjusted seed for future habitat restoration projects as well as increasing the capacity of the Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater's nursery by 15% to ensure that we have plants for future projects.

I'm really proud to be involved in this project because it's making a real difference to securing a future for the critically endangered Lowland Leadbeater’s Possum.
