Find information on E. coli and Enterococci bacteria levels in the water at Boags Rocks, on the Mornington Peninsula. Our Eastern Treatment Plant’s EPA Victoria licence allows us to release highly treated wastewater into the ocean at Boags Rocks, but requires us to monitor water quality to make sure it’s safe.

Water quality standards

EPA Victoria’s state environment protection policy, Waters of Victoria, views water quality as acceptable for recreation if the:

  • E. coli median is less than 150cfu per 100ml
  • Enterococci median is less than 35cfu per 100ml
  • Enterococci 75th Percentile is less than 150cfu per 100ml

For information on Melbourne beach water quality, please see the Beach Report on the EPA website.
