We have completed the majority of this project involving weed control and revegetation along Gardiners Creek, between Solway Bridge and Winton Road, in Ashburton.

Woody weeds including willow and ash trees have been removed and the area has been planted out with indigenous species.

We will now maintain the project area for two years to ensure the health of the new plants.

Why this project was important

The works that have been undertaken will improve the amenity of Gardiners Creek by enhancing the natural features within the creek and reducing the visual impact of weeds. Removal of woody weed species, such as willow and ash, and the establishment of indigenous vegetation also improve the waterway condition and connectivity of the riparian corridor.

This project builds upon our existing long term weed management in the area.
