230 metre section of the North West Sewer (NWS) and its connecting manholes have been rehabiltated.
These manholes are located near the intersection of Albion and Tennyson streets and near the intersection of Lawson and Hilda streets, Essendon.
This project was completed in two stages:
relined the existing underground sewer
- refurbished the two sewer manholes
Why this project was important
The NWS was built to transfer wastewater from Melbourne’s inner north-western suburbs to the Western Treatment Plant via the Western Trunk Sewer at Brooklyn. A section of this sewer, at Montgomery Park, is aged and at the end of its service life.
Construction work started in May 2015 and was completed September 2015.
