Is this the era of desal?

Listen to Melbourne Water Chair, Professor John Thwaites, discuss why desalinated water is becoming an important part of our water supply system, courtesy of ABC Radio National.

The Wonthaggi desalination plant is the largest of all facilities built around Australia and can provide up to 150 billion litres of water annually.

Melbourne Water Chair, Professor John Thwaites, spoke in detail with to ABC Radio’s Geraldine Doogue on Saturday morning about how Victoria’s desalination plant is helping to secure our water supply, especially heading into summer.

Demand on our water resources is greater than ever due to Melbourne’s growing population and changing climate.

“Certainly it’s proved to be a good decision that we have a desal plant for Melbourne because we’re needing it,” Professor Thwaites said.
