Moreland IWCM case study

To raise awareness of IWCM and the impacts of stormwater, Moreland City Council has launched their Integrated Water Cycle Management project with community targets in their water map 2020 plan.

Merri Creek

‚ÄčMoreland City Council has two community targets in their Watermap 2020 plan:

  • 25% reduction in community potable water consumption from 2001 baseline consumption to 10.1GL/a by 2020
  • 50% of Moreland households to have an installed rainwater tank by 2020.
  • 25% of Moreland households to have an on-lot stormwater treatment raingarden or other stormwater treatment mechanism by 2020.

To help achieve this, they are developing a community engagement program to promote and encourage householders to implement IWCM at home.

Partnership outcomes

Moreland City Council IWCM meets Living Rivers objectives by:

  • helping the health of our waterways and bays by improving stormwater quality and reducing stormwater quantity

  • increasing awareness of sustainable stormwater management practices

  • implementing alternative supply options to preserve drinking water supplies

  • creating greener open spaces and enhanced urban landscapes
