Community grants program

​Volunteer community groups play an important role in protecting and improving local rivers and creeks. Find out if your group is eligible for funding and how to apply.​​

Applications for our community grants for 2018/19 are now closed. Information about our 2019/20 funding round will be available in September 2019. Please contact us for more information.

Melbourne Water offer grants annually to volunteer community groups to support them to deliver waterway improvements on public land. Community groups can apply for support grants – up to $1,000 and project grants – up to $20,000.

Who can apply

Groups and organisations in the Port Phillip and Westernport region including:

  • incorporated community groups
  • management committees
  • volunteer groups
  • schools

To qualify for a community grant your group must meet a number of terms and conditions. Please refer to the Community Grants Guidelines below. 

Types of grants

There are two types of grants: Group Support and Project. Your group may apply for both of these grants.

Group Support grants

Running and organising volunteer groups takes time and money. These grants are available to help with:

  • administrative activities
  • increasing participation in your group
  • raising public awareness
  • training to improve skills and knowledge in protecting and improving waterway health
  • educating the community about project work

Project grants

These grants can fund a range of activities on public land along waterways including:

  • weed control
  • revegetation (replanting) with indigenous plants

Community grants applications can be submitted online through SmartyGrants from 9am Monday 10 September to 11pm, Monday 15 October 2018.

Together with Port Phillip and Westernport Catchment Management Authority (PPWCMA) we have a long history of supporting community groups, to improve the health of waterways and catchments.
