Private jetties on Melbourne's waterways

You need our approval to build a private floating or fixed jetty, pontoon or mooring on Melbourne's waterways, even if your home is on the neighbouring land.

You may also need approval permits from your local council, Parks Victoria and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).

Without these approvals, your jetty or mooring is illegal and you may face fines or costs for alterations or removal.

We recommend you submit your initial concept plans for our review and feedback before you apply for our formal approval.
