Community Liaison Committee
The safety and environmental performance of the Western Treatment Plant is independently regulated, however Melbourne Water also works closely with the community to monitor the plant's performance.
A Community Liaison Committee plays a vital role in the planning and management of the Western Treatment Plant. The committee was established in 1998 and includes representatives from a broad cross-section, including:
- Environment, business and community organisations
- Local residents
- Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA Victoria)
- Department of Sustainability and Environment
- City of Wyndham
- City West Water
- Barwon Water
Environment Improvement Plan 2006
Melbourne Water has developed the Western Treatment Plant’s third Environment Improvement Plan (EIP) (PDF 1.4mb) in consultation with the Western Treatment Plant Community Liaison Committee (CLC), a group made up of local residents and representatives from the City of Wyndham, the Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA Victoria), environmental groups, the water industry and local commercial industries. This EIP will be current for a five-year period to coincide with Melbourne Water’s EPA accredited licence.
