Girl Guides Healthy Waterways Badge

Healthy Waterways Badge

Rivers and creeks will benefit from a partnership between Melbourne Water and Guides Victoria to promote Victoria’s first Healthy Waterways girl guides badge.

To earn the badge, girl guides have to visit their local waterway, identify why it is important to their local community, and identify ways in which they can help protect it.

The new guides badge is an initiative of Melbourne Water’s I Love Living Here campaign, which aims to celebrate the region’s rivers and creeks and involve the community in projects and actions to help protect them.

Janeanne Lee, deputy CEO of Guides Victoria, welcomed the concept of working with Melbourne Water to develop the badge.

"We believe our guides are the leaders of tomorrow who can play a fundamental role in enhancing the health of our city’s rivers and creeks for future generations," said Ms Lee.

"We are anticipating a great deal of excitement from all 2,200 guides who are eligible to complete the badge, and we will be encouraging each guide to share her learnings with her friends and family so we can filter the information into the broader community."
