Annual Report
Melbourne Water's Sustainability Report 2006/07 is a combined annual and sustainability report that provides a comprehensive account of our achievements, disappointments and challenges in meeting our obligations as the water resource manager for Melbourne.
"The report highlights our significant progress in developing a sustainable culture and considering social, financial and environmental impacts in everything we do, and was produced according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI): Sustainability Report Guidelines," Managing Director, Rob Skinner said.
Among the key achievements outlined in the Sustainability Report are:
- Exceeding the Government's recycled water usage target, meeting a 45% renewable energy production target and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 53% compared with the baseline year of 2000/01
- Completing the Eastern Green Energy project at the Eastern Treatment Plant, using biogas to generate around 50% of the plants electricity
- Extending our waterways and drainage services into our expanded operating boundary
- Commencing works to save around 100 million litres of drinking water a year through upgrades to the Hoppers Crossing pumping station
- Successfully introducing triple bottom line guidelines to enhance our business processes.

- Drinking Water Quality Performance - including E coli, routine physical, organic and inorganic chemical parameters, plus chemical and radiological parameters
- Environmental Performance - including Eastern and Western Treatment Plant performance, rivers and creeks water quality monitoring plus energy and greenhouse data.
