Stormwater Connections
Melbourne Water must approve any new or modified stormwater connection into a drain, watercourse or open channel controlled by Melbourne Water.

Please note: This does not preclude the need to obtain other relevant approvals and operation of other legislations e.g. SBO, LSIO.
How to apply for stormwater connections

Check what you can connect to the stormwater system

Prepare your plans
You’ll need:
- a copy of your Certificate of Title
PLUS standard drawings showing at least:
- The size and alignment of the proposed connection, including Melbourne Water’s asset.
- The size and alignment of any existing connection to Melbourne Water’s asset.
- The proposed connection angled at 45° downstream to the flow in Melbourne Water’s asset.
- For open waterways, pipe outlet velocity not greater than 1.5m/s. Long section indicating grades etc to be submitted to Melbourne Water.
- Any standard drawing accompanying this application form.
- Detailed plans of the development including any driveways, landscaping etc.
- Detailed cross section of the creek and the proposed drain indicating creek invert levels, width, depth top bank, surrounding topography etc.
Photographs of the area affected would also be useful.
