Conditions for Approval of Stormwater Connection
Please note that further conditions will be applicable upon formal approval by Melbourne Water.
1) New stormwater connections should be made to the local council system
Melbourne Water requires all new stormwater connections to be made to the local council system.
If appropriate, consideration should be given to making the stormwater connection to an existing connection from an adjoining property.
2) A legal point of discharge advice from council is required
Where stormwater connection to the local council system is not possible, and consent is sought to discharge stormwater to a Melbourne Water asset, a copy of the legal point of discharge advice from council must accompany the application.
3) All required preliminary plans must be submitted to Melbourne Water
Melbourne Water requires plans showing the following details to be submitted with this application (additional information may be necessary):
- a copy of your Certificate of Title
PLUS standard drawings showing at least:
- The size and alignment of the proposed connection, including Melbourne Water’s asset.
- The size and alignment of any existing connection to Melbourne Water’s asset.
- The proposed connection angled at 45° downstream to the flow in Melbourne Water’s asset.
- For open waterways, pipe outlet velocity not greater than 1.5m/s. Long section indicating grades etc to be submitted to Melbourne Water.
- Any standard drawing accompanying this application form.
- Detailed plans of the development including any driveways, landscaping etc.
- Detailed cross section of the creek and the proposed drain indicating creek invert levels, width, depth top bank, surrounding topography etc.
Photographs of the area affected would also be useful.
4) Additional approvals may be required
Separate approval may need to be attained from:
- other Authorities,
- Private Owners that may be affected by the works necessary.
Once all details are finalised, all documentation is to be submitted to Melbourne Water for approval.
5) Approval is not guaranteed
Submission does not guarantee approval by Melbourne Water.

6) Further conditions may be required
Further conditions including fees will be applicable upon formal submission and approval by Melbourne Water.
