Storages start summer on a high
Melbourne’s water storages have started summer 250 billion litres better off than at the same time last year, helped by a 0.7% increase in dam levels this week.
Melbourne’s dams are today 65.8% (1192.3 billion litres) full, compared with 52% (942.5 billion litres) at the same time last year.
Storages received a welcome boost during the week thanks to rainfall of between 69.4mm and 97mm across the four major catchments.
That rainfall was almost 350% above the long term average for the period and boosted inflows to the dams to 152.6% above the 30-year average for the period.
Melburnians used an average of 141 litres of water per person per day over the past week - two litres per day less than last week.
December 1 marked the commencement of Stage 1 water restrictions across Melbourne.
Details on Stage 1 water restrictions and changes to the way Melburnians can use water heading into summer are available under water restrictions.
