Downpour over Thomson steadies storages
A large storm over the Thomson catchment helped hold storages at 32.7% during the week.
As a consequence the Thomson reservoir received the lion’s share of water added to storages.
While most of the catchments had little rainfall, the 61mm that fell over Thomson, lifted the weekly average to 30.7mm.
This was 50% above the long-term average for the period of 20.5mm.
As a result of the good falls, streamflow entering the reservoirs was close to the average for the period.
The 5.5 billion litres of runoff that flowed into the major reservoirs was only 3.4% below the norm of 5.7 billion litres.
Storages are now 32.7% (592.2 billion litres) full, compared with 26.2% (463.6 billion litres) at the same time last year – a difference of 128.6 billion litres.
For the 13th week in a row Melbourne households kept residential water use under the target of 155 litres per person a day.
Melburnians used a daily average of 133 litres each – 22 litres below the target.
More information on restrictions and tips on how to reach the target are available from Target 155 [website no longer available, visit Office of Water for this information] or by contacting the government water retailers.
Stage 3 restrictions and Target 155 are currently in place.
