MELBOURNE WATER WELCOMES NEW CHAIRMAN

Melbourne Water has welcomed the announcement of its new chairman, Eleanor Underwood.

Ms Underwood will take up the Chairman’s position from 1 April after serving 10 years on the South East Water board, including the past five years as its chair.

Managing Director Rob Skinner said Ms Underwood brought extensive experience in the water industry to the role, having previously held the positions of deputy chair of South Gippsland Water and director of the Water Training Centre.

“Ms Underwood joins the board at a time of significant change and advancement in how Melbourne’s water supply, sewage and rivers and creeks are managed,” said Mr Skinner.

“Ms Underwood’s depth of knowledge and experience in the sector will be a much valued asset to the board as we work toward a sustainable water future in the face of climate change and population growth.”

Mr Skinner thanked immediate past chairman, Cheryl Batagol, who resigned in September 2009 to take up the position as Chair of the Environment Protection Authority, for her contribution over a period of unprecedented investment in water resources.

“I would also like to thank deputy chair Merran Kelsall, who has been acting in the chair position. Merran has provided excellent leadership over the past six months and will continue to be an invaluable part of our board,” said Mr Skinner.

From 1 April, the Melbourne Water board will comprise Ms Underwood as non-executive chairman, Managing Director Rob Skinner and six non-executive directors – Merran Kelsall, Mary Anne Hartley, Warren Hodgson, Terry Larkins, Peter Vines and Maria Wilton. The position of Chairman is appointed by the Minister for Water.
