Groundhog Day as storages hold steady at 38%
Melbourne’s reservoirs have stayed steady at 38.0% full over the past week, in what has been a repetitive month or so for water storages.
For the past five weeks storages have hovered around 38% full as the amount of water flowing into reservoirs has equalled roughly the same amount used by Melburnians.
Between 22 to 35 mm of rain fell over the major catchments over the past week, with an average of 27 mm. This was above the long-term average for the period, 17.6 mm.
The 4.9 billion litres of inflow was 35% below the average of 7.6 billion litres.
Storages are now 38.0% (687.1 billion litres) full, compared with 34.0% (602.9 billion litres) at the same time last year.
Residential water consumption crept above last week’s figure but remained under the Target of 155 litres per person per day.
Melburnians used an average of 153 litres each a day.
More information on restrictions and tips on how to reach the target are available from Target 155 or by contacting the government water retailers.
Stage 3a restrictions and Target 155 are currently in place.
