Storage levels continue strong rise

Water storages increased by 1.5% of capacity in the past week as good rain fell over wet catchments.

The rise, representing an overall boost of 27.1 billion litres, came as the major storages averaged 24 mm of rain, similar to the long-term average for the period.

With the catchments wet from consistent rain events last month, the rainfall converted into good runoff into the reservoirs.

The 26.1 billion litres of inflow into the four major harvesting storages was 59% above the average of 16.4 billion litres.

Storages are now 34.7% (628.0 billion litres) full, compared with 34.5% (612.4 billion litres) at the same time last year.

Residential water consumption was within the Target of 155 litres per person a day for the 31st week in a row.

The cool, damp conditions helped Melburnians use an average of 138 litres each a day.

More information on restrictions and tips on how to reach the target are available from Target 155 [website no longer available, visit Office of Water for this information] or by contacting the government water retailers.

Stage 3a restrictions and Target 155 are currently in place.
