CHANGES TO MELBOURNE WATER BOARD
Melbourne Water has welcomed Maria Wilton to the corporation’s independent Board of Directors.
Ms Wilton is a Chartered Financial Analyst with 20 years experience in the investment management industry and is a current Director of the Transport Accident Commission.
Ms Wilton has also worked in Canberra at the Commonwealth Department of Treasury where she was responsible for foreign exchange market research.
The Melbourne Water Board’s Acting Chairman, Merran Kelsall, said Ms Wilton’s experience in the finance and investment sector would be valuable at a time when Melbourne Water is rapidly expanding its capital works program.
“Melbourne Water is delivering $3.5 billion in capital works over five years including the Sugarloaf Pipeline, replacement of the Melbourne Main Sewer and the Northern Sewerage Project, and this year’s reconnection of the Tarago Reservoir,” Ms Kelsall said.
Ms Kelsall has also announced the departure of two Board members, Peter Darvall and Bruce Cohen.
Professor Peter Darvall, previously the Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University, has been a Melbourne Water Director since January 2004.
Dr Bruce Cohen, a barrister and a principal in private practice in the area of public policy, has been a Melbourne Water Director for 19 months.
Ms Kelsall said both directors brought a wealth of experience to the Melbourne Water Board and thanked them for their excellent contribution.
The Board Chairman, Cheryl Batagol, resigned in early September to take up a new position as Chairman of the EPA.
Ms Kelsall is Acting Chairman of Melbourne Water until a permanent appointment is made by the Victorian Government.
