RAIN PROVIDES SOME WELCOME INFLOWS

Rainfall of between 39mm (Thomson) and 67mm (O’Shannassy) across Melbourne’s four major catchments provided some welcome inflows into storages this week, with reservoirs now at 37.6% (666,826 million litres) of capacity.

Storages fell 0.3% (5,157 million litres) through the week, which is around 4 billion litres less than that recorded in each of the last couple of weeks. Storages are now holding a total of around 9 billion litres more water than at the same time last year, when they were 37.1% (657,586 million litres) full.

The wet weather also helped keep average daily consumption down, with Melburnians using an average of 1092 million litres per day this week, compared to the summer daily average of 1406 million litres.

Stage 3a water restrictions are currently in place. Further details are available by visiting the Our Water Our Future [website no longer available, visit Office of Water for this information] website or by contacting the government water retailers.
