INFORMATION SOUGHT ON DIESEL IN CREEK
1 September2006
Melbourne Water is assisting EPA Victoria in a clean up of Lollypop Creek near the Wyndham Vale housing estate after two barrels of diesel were dumped there on Wednesday night.
Melbourne Water General Manager Waterways Chris Chesterfield said everything possible was being done to minimise the effect of the diesel on the health of the creek.
"We believe the diesel was deliberately dumped into the creek and so we urge anyone with any information to contact EPA Victoria’s pollution hotline on 9695 2777.
"We are the caretaker of the region’s rivers and creeks, so an incident like this is very disappointing," Mr Chesterfield said.
"We have placed an absorbent boom in the creek to stop the slick travelling further downstream, and our crews will be on site today to clean up the diesel."
Melbourne Water manages waterways and major drainage systems for the whole of the Port Phillip and Westernport region.
