SOME RAIN FALLS BUT WINTER TOTALS STILL BELOW AVERAGE
Rainfall of between 9.6mm and 22.8mm in Melbourne's four major catchments this week has seen storages hold steady at 47.3% (838,164 million litres) full this week. This is unchanged from last Thursday (August 3, 2006).
Storages are now at a level 5.2% lower than at the same time last year when they were 52.5% (930,760 million litres) full.
Total rainfall levels for winter to date continue to be well below average in each of the four major catchments - Thomson, Upper Yarra, O'Shannassy and Maroondah - with between 30 and 53% of long-term averages recorded so far.
Melburnians continued to less water than the winter average this week, recording an average daily water use of 1,071 million litres.
