STORAGES DOWN AFTER ANOTHER DRY WEEK IN THE CATCHMENTS

9 March 2006

Melbourne's water storages are 52.9% (937,746 million litres) full today - a decrease of 0.7% (12,321 million litres) in the last week. This is 5.4% lower than at the same time last year when storages were 58.3% (1,033,913 million litres) full.

It has been another dry week for Melbourne's four major water catchments with Maroondah reservoir the only catchment to record any rainfall (0.6mm) for the week.

The dry weather led to an increase in average daily water consumption, with Melburnians using 1,535 million litres of water per day over the past week. The Autumn average, based on 2001 to 2005 consumption is 1,302 Million litres per day. For the same period last year the average daily consumption was 1,251 Million litres per day.

With another warm weekend ahead, Melburnians are reminded to take a shorter shower, use water efficient products and remember to follow Melbourne's Permanent Water Saving Rules.
