WATER STORAGES INCREASE

18 August 2005

Melbourne's water storages have increased by 0.6% this week, or 9581 million litres - a welcome boost as the official end of winter nears.

Today, Melbourne's water storages are at 53.1% full. For the same time last year (18 August 2004), Melbourne's water storages were 53.4% full.

Of the four major catchments, O'Shannassy recorded the most rainfall over the past week with 23.4mm. The Thomson Reservoir received 18.6mm of rain, Upper Yarra received 19.4mm, and Maroondah Reservoir recorded 23mm.

Rain and showers are anticipated in the next few days and it is hoped that this will provide a boost to storage levels in the lead up to the end of winter.
