GOOD RAINFALL SEES WATER STORAGES UP
11 August 2005
Melbourne's water storage levels have increased by 0.3%, or 6294 million litres, since last week - the biggest weekly increase since the major storms in February.
Today, water storages are at 52.5%. For the same time last year (11 August 2004), Melbourne's water storages were 52.3% (926,619 million litres) full.
The four major catchments - Thomson, Upper Yarra, O'Shannassy and Maroondah - received some good rain during the past week. Between 29mm and 56mm of rain was recorded, which helped water storage levels.
The recent cold snap also resulted in heavy snow falling in most of Melbourne's catchments, especially in the Thomson. The snow will contribute a small amount of run-off into the reservoirs.
