WORK SET TO BEGIN ON YARRA RIVER BANK
12 July 2005
Melbourne Water will start work this week on a $70,000 project to repair a section of the Yarra River in Hawthorn.
Managing Director Rob Skinner said about 20 metres of the riverbank, at the rear of Creswick Street near Pridmore Park, was damaged in the February storms.
“We’ll undertake work to rebuild the bank and replant it with indigenous trees and shrubs,” he said.
“This work will improve the stability of the bank and help to prevent any further erosion.”
Mr Skinner said Melbourne Water had worked with the owner of a nearby property and Boroondara Council to plan the project.
Construction work is expected to be completed by the end of July with replanting starting in spring.
During the work, the walking path at the rear of Creswick Street will be closed. Signs will be placed near Mason and Denham streets to advise the community of an alternative route. A small number of trees will be removed as part of the works.
