WET START TO FEBRUARY FOR MELBOURNE'S CATCHMENTS
3 February 2005
Melbourne's water storages have recorded their biggest daily increase since 1990, rising by 0.4%, or 7675 million litres, since yesterday to 59.3% today.
Each of Melbourne's four major catchments received more rain in one day than the February average.
Melbourne Water Acting General Manager Infrastructure Rod Clifford said it was unusual for Melbourne's water storages to rise by so much during February. The last time this happened in February was in 1996.
Melbourne's water storages for the week ending 3 February 2005 were 59.3% (1,051,952 megalitres) full. This is an increase of 966 ML since last week (27 January 2005). The increase represents 0.05% of total system storage capacity.
For the same time last year (3 February 2004) Melbourne's water storages were 54.7% (970,489 megalitres) full.
