RAIN FALLS IN OUR CATCHMENTS
14 October 2004
Heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours has helped Melbourne's water storages rise to 57.5% today.
Between 29mm and 70mm of rain was recorded at Melbourne's water catchments over the past week, with most of it falling yesterday.
Melbourne Water manages about 140,000 hectares of catchments. The catchments have been closed to the public for more than 100 years - one of the few cities in the world to have such protected catchments.
Melbourne's water storages for the week ending 14 October 2004 were 57.5% (1,019,432 million litres) full. This is an increase of 4,419 ML since last week (7 October 2004). The increase represents 0.25% of total system storage capacity.
For the same time last year (14 October 2003) Melbourne's water storages were 53.4% (945,950 million litres) full.
Stage 2 water restrictions are still in place in Melbourne.
