MELBOURNE WATERWATCH VISITS MOONEE PONDS CREEK
30 September 2004
Students from St Columba's College in Essendon will join local Melbourne Waterwatch co-ordinator Jessica Miller on Thursday October 9 to monitor the water quality of the Moonee Ponds Creek catchment.
The students have been involved in the local Butt It, Bin It program with the Moonee Valley Council and are interested in the health of the Moonee Ponds Creek.
They will be monitoring three sites starting at the upper catchment area and working down to the lower catchment where the creek is a concrete drain under the Tullamarine Freeway, comparing the health of the creek at the three different sites.
The Melbourne Waterwatch program is a free education and water quality monitoring program that helps schools and community groups assess the health of their local waterways.
Melbourne Water is the major sponsor of the Melbourne Waterwatch program. The program is supported locally by the City of Hume and the City of Moonee Valley.
About 15,000 people in 274 groups currently monitor 356 sites as part of the Melbourne Waterwatch program. This is a 50% increase in participation on last year.
