SPRING RAIN WON'T DAMPEN THE GRAND FINAL
23 September 2004
We don't want to spoil the fun, but a wet weather AFL Grand Final would be good for Melbourne's water storages!
Melbourne Water Acting Managing Director Grant Wilson said despite the warmer weather over the past week, water storages continued to rise, and were now at 56.5%.
"Between 11mm and 17mm of rain fell in the four major catchments over the past week, which has helped maintain run-off into the reservoirs and lift the level of our water storages by 0.7%," Mr Wilson said.
"And even though it's the Grand Final, some more spring rain this weekend would be welcome."
Melbourne's water storages for the week ending 23 September 2004 were 56.5% (1,001,724 million litres) full. This is an increase of 11,930 ML since last week (16 September 2004). The increase represents 0.67% of total system storage capacity.
For the same time last year (23 September 2003) Melbourne's water storages were 50.5% (895,714 million litres) full.
Stage 2 water restrictions are still in place in Melbourne.
