Water Main Replacement on Greensborough Hwy
Why are we replacing the water main?
The water main under Greensborough Highway (Yallambie Road to Drysdale Street) is more than 100 years old and is prone to burst and leaks.
In the past 18 months, we have replaced 5 other sections of the original water main, which runs from the Morang Reservoir to Rosanna.
The project is an essential part of our program to secure supply to homes and businesses, and to help conserve our precious water resources.
We do not anticipate any disruptions to your water supply or impacts on water pressure.
Traffic and public transport changes
Due to the location of the water main under 2 lanes of Greensborough Highway, half of the road must be closed for the duration of works. The 2 remaining lanes will be converted to allow for two-way traffic.
Right-turn restrictions will also apply from the highway into connecting side streets within the works area, and vice versa. Erskine Road will be unaffected, with left and right-hand turns onto the highway allowed.
5 bus stops along the southbound section of the highway will be closed during the works, but a temporary bus stop will be installed near the Simpson's Army Barracks entrance.
The works have been scheduled during school holiday to take advantage of reduced traffic flow. However, traffic delays are expected.
Work Hours
The main construction hours are 7am - 6pm weekdays and 7am - 5pm on Saturdays.
Some night-time works will be required at the start of the work to set up the changes to traffic conditions, and then at the end of restore the road.
To reduce traffic impacts, we are also likely to undertake some night works when replacing the main under the Yallambie Rd and Greensborough Highway intersection, and along the front of the Shell Coles Express Service Station on the corner.
Residents living close to any after-hours construction works will be contacted before the works begin.
