Tarago Catchment Sustainable Farms Project
The aim of the Tarago Catchment Sustainable Farms Project is to create a liveable, productive catchment with sustainable farms and healthy waterways.
The project is steered by a working group consisting of community representatives, Neerim and District Landcare Group, West Gippsland Landcare Network, Department of Primary Industries, Baw Baw Shire Council and Melbourne Water.
Melbourne Water provides funding support for the project as part of the Tarago Catchment Management Plan. Activities include:
- on ground works
- a grants program
- educational courses
- a dung beetle project
- field days on topics of interest to the local landholders.
Landowners also have access to ongoing advice from the Department of Primary Industries, and assistance (through the Nutrient Extension program) with developing nutrient, effluent, water and soil management plans.
