Greenvale Booster Pump Station
The Water Resources Alliance (WRA), on behalf of Melbourne Water, is constructing a new pump station and a small section of water main in Greenvale.
Why is the pump station required?
The pump station will help improve the way in which we transfer water for thousands of residents and businesses in the northern and western suburbs.
It will also improve the operation of our water supply network and ensure we can continue to provide quality drinking water to residents and businesses in the area.
Where are you constructing the pump station?
The pump station will be located on Melbourne Water owned land on the south side of Somerton Road, Greenvale, opposite Greenvale Reservoir.
Note: Yarra Valley Water are also carrying out infrastructure upgrade works in this area as part of their Greenvale Sewer System Upgrade.
Project update
The project team has installed a divide valve on the Greenvale-Yuroke-Sydenham main and recommissioned the water mains. The installation of the valve increases the efficiency and capability of the water supply network. We have demolished the unused building onsite, and have started the earthworks for the pump station. Materials from the demolished building have been removed from site.
Early 2012 we will begin the construction of the pump station building and install the discharge pipe.
What will the pump station look like?
We would like to thank our local neighbours and the wider community, who attended the project information sessions; or have contacted us through our project toll-free information line; or we have met in person to provide your input and feedback on the design of the Greenvale Booster Pump Station.
We have consolidated all your feedback on the design of the pump station and the overall amenity of the area, which is as follows:
The building: the concept designs tabled to you included a grey building with green pipe. We have now incorporated your overwhelming preference for a green building, similar to the existing pump station currently on site, into the new building. The pipe will now be black rather than the original concepts indicating green in colour.
Building acoustics: The pump station has been designed and housed within acoustically controlled structures, specifically to minimise potential noise. Current noise levels readings at the site have been recorded prior to construction and will be monitored after construction to ensure that the pump station is in compliance with the Victorian Environment Protection Authority’s noise policy and guidelines.
Landscape: we have noted the strong support and preference for a staggered planting between the new pump station, security fencing and more broadly across the site, instead of a strip bed planting directly behind the new pump station.
Overall amenity of the area: we have developed a comprehensive environmental management plan that protects and preserves, and promotes the established flora and fauna, and sensate to the area’s overall amenity.
